The Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences condemns the attack on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

The Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) strongly condemns Monday’s Russian drone attack, which set the historic building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in central Kyiv ablaze. Such actions violate both international law and the fundamental values of the civilized world.
An attack on an academy of sciences is an attack on knowledge, education, and cultural heritage.
The Slovak Academy of Sciences expresses its solidarity with its colleagues at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and especially with all those who were working in the building at the time of the attack. Just as it has been since the first day of the war, the SAS remains ready to assist Ukrainian scientists and to continue its cooperation with Ukrainian research institutions.
Science is based on free research and collaboration. This is one of the reasons why the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) is proud to have been providing a platform for scientific work to colleagues from Ukraine since the start of the war.
The Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences also calls on academic institutions in Europe and around the world to join in condemning this attack and to express their solidarity with the Ukrainian scientific community.
