From July 1, 2026, new traffic regulations will come into effect on the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) campus in Bratislava–Patrónka. The changes are intended to improve pedestrian safety and reduce traffic congestion within the campus.

Vehicle Access

Access to the campus will be permitted only for:

Official vehicles owned by SAS organisations and vehicles belonging to garage owners in the residential building (unlimited access, free of charge);

Vehicles of SAS employees (subject to an annual registration fee of €12; the maximum parking period is 72 hours from the last entry);

Visitor vehicles with a paid entry ticket obtained at the main entrance barrier (vehicles must leave the campus through the main gate on the same calendar day, no later than 10:00 p.m.).

Registration of official and employee vehicles will be carried out by submitting vehicle registration numbers through the statutory representatives of individual SAS organisations to areal.Patronka@savba.sk. Employees may register more than one vehicle; however, only one registered vehicle per employee may enter the campus at any given time.

Authorised representatives of SAS organisations located on the campus will be able to validate visitor parking tickets via a password-protected web interface. Once validated, visitor vehicles must leave the campus by 10:00 p.m. on the same day.

If a visitor ticket is not validated, visitors will be charged for each hour commenced after the initial 30 minutes of free parking from the first entry on that calendar day. Payment must be made at the payment terminal located at the campus exit.

Tenants

Tenants leasing premises on the SAS campus must arrange campus access through a separate agreement with the Special Purpose Facilities Administration (SÚZ) of the Centre of Operations of SAS. A valid lease agreement is required to obtain access.

Entry Gates

Registered authorised vehicles will be able to enter and leave the campus through all three entrances and exit barriers, which will operate automatically using license plate recognition.

Visitor tickets may only be used for entry and exit through the main gate.

The lower gate (near the training ground) and the upper gate (behind the Institute of Botany, Centre of Plant Biology and Biodiversity SAS) will be open on weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. During nights, weekends and public holidays, all vehicle access will be available only through the main gate.

Vehicles parked on campus before July 1, 2026, that are not registered may leave the campus free of charge until July 31, 2026. After that date, parking fees will apply, or the vehicles may be towed away.

The gatehouse staff will handle any issues with entry or exit. During the first days following the introduction of the new system, personnel will be present at all three gates to assist drivers. If a license plate has not yet been registered correctly, gate staff will register the vehicle on site and allow access.

Employees who only occasionally drive to the campus, particularly those working at SAS organisations located outside the Patrónka campus, are encouraged to use the visitor ticket system and enter through the main gate rather than registering their vehicle.

Registered employees are encouraged to use the upper and lower gates on working days. The main gate should primarily serve visitors with entry tickets to reduce waiting times during peak hours.

Employees with registered vehicles are also advised to use the upper entrance near the Institute of Botany, which offers quicker access from the west and from Mlynská dolina via the tunnel and the junction above Tesco towards Dúbravka. The lower exit is recommended for those continuing towards the city centre or Kramáre via the Patrónka intersection.

Internal Traffic Changes

The following changes to traffic flow within the campus will also take effect:The road from the main gate to the ÚSTARCH building will be closed; traffic will be redirected left towards the lower gate.

• The entrance and exit barrier near the main gate will be relocated to the left, near the lower gate, at the level of the parking area by the stationery shop.
• Vehicle access from the gate to the Institute of Slovak Literature and the Institute of World Literature building will be closed.
• Access to the Auditorium building, the Institute of Informatics SAS, and the area in front of the Institutes of Slovak and World Literature will only be possible via the intersection in front of the Institute of Chemistry SAS. The same route must also be used when leaving these areas.
• The road from the main gatehouse to the lower gate will become one-way, passing the ÚSTARCH laboratory building.
• The section of road from the Biomedical Research Centre SAS, past the PERUN supercomputer, to the first intersection near the ÚBGŽ SAS will also become one-way.
• Parking along all main roads within the campus will be prohibited unless parking spaces are explicitly marked. The campus regulations are available at https://csc.sav.sk. Any exceptions to the above rules must be approved by the Special Purpose Facilities Administration (SÚZ) of the Centre of Operations of SAS.

Repeated violations of the campus regulations, particularly the misuse of visitor passes, failure to leave the campus within the permitted time, exceeding the maximum speed limit, or parking in prohibited areas, will result in the vehicle's registration number being blocked from future access to the campus.
