Slovak President Peter Pellegrini Reviewed the Third Working Version of the Vision 2040 Document at the SAS
On Tuesday, 16 June 2026, the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, reviewed the third working version of the Vision 2040 document. The President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS), Martin Venhart, confirmed that the document would be completed by the end of June. The announcement was made during a joint press conference following their meeting. Both emphasised that Vision 2040 is a non-partisan document.
“I am very pleased that the Slovak Academy of Sciences has managed to preserve and protect this document from any political influence, which was guaranteed and confirmed by the President of SAS. This means that it is a purely expert document, without even a trace of political ideology or the political beliefs of its individual authors,” said President Pellegrini.
According to Martin Venhart, the document is also strongly cross-sectoral. “We took great care to eliminate the influence of individual ministries,” he said, adding that the document is not intended to address the specific agendas of government departments.
The President described the document as highly important. In his view, it is equally important to convince political parties and the people of Slovakia that long-term planning must become an integral part of achieving national goals and implementing strategic priorities. As he pointed out, governing from one election cycle to the next and constantly changing priorities prevent Slovakia from effectively addressing major global challenges.
“If we fail to break this cycle of constantly shifting priorities and goals that change after every election, we will face a fundamental problem in the future,” he warned.
The Head of State also noted that the document itself does not prescribe specific actions for political parties. Another key document, the Strategy of the Slovak Republic, will follow it. According to him, this subsequent material will be even more important, as it should outline various tools and policy options that future political leaders can use to achieve the goals for improving the quality of life in Slovakia outlined in Vision 2040.
The President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences described the preparation of Vision 2040 as a broad participatory process involving more than 350 experts from various fields.
“We consulted with more than 150 partners. Altogether, we processed over 2,000 comments on the individual working versions, many of them classified as substantial,” he said. He added that the final version of the document would be submitted by the end of June so that it could undergo peer review during the summer and be approved by the government by the end of the summer.
