Citizen science gains a new Czech–Slovak Platform
On 13 November 2025, a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of understanding on cooperation and the joint development of citizen science in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic took place at Arnold’s Villa in Brno. The document represents the first step towards establishing the Czech and Slovak Citizen Science Platform, intended as a space for connecting institutions, experts and individuals, sharing experience, and supporting joint projects in the field of citizen science.
During the event, the initiators from both countries presented their vision for the emerging platform. The programme also included networking, a guided tour of the historic villa, and informal discussions about opportunities for developing citizen science.
The Centre of Plant Biology and Biodiversity of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (CBRB SAS) was represented by its Director General, Ing. Jaromír Kučera, PhD., who signed the memorandum on behalf of CBRB SAS. Also present was Mgr. Adam Kantor, PhD., coordinator of citizen science activities at the Institute of Botany (Slovak Flora on iNaturalist).
Thanks go to RNDr. Zuzana Stožická, PhD. (CVTI SR), one of the Slovak initiators of the platform, for the invitation.
The full text of the memorandum is available on the website citizenscience.cz, where institutions and individuals may join the initiative by signing the document online.
