Prof. Pavol Šajgalík Receives the European Ceramic Society–American Ceramic Society Joint Award
This year’s laureate of the European Ceramic Society–American Ceramic Society Joint Award is Prof. Pavol Šajgalík from the Center for Advanced Materials Application SAS and the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry SAS. He received the award at the 19th Conference of the European Ceramic Society, held from 31 August to 4 September in Dresden, Germany.
The award is jointly presented by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and the European Ceramic Society (ECerS) to a distinguished expert in ceramic materials who represents the forefront of research on both continents in this field and has significantly contributed to closer cooperation between the two societies.
Prof. Pavol Šajgalík’s scientific work focuses primarily on the research and development of oxide and non-oxide high-performance ceramics, and on the relationship between the microstructure and mechanical properties of these materials. He is the author of more than 200 scientific articles, co-editor of eight conference proceedings, guest editor of seven special issues of scientific journals, and co-author of ten monographs. He regularly organizes workshops on engineering ceramics and has led many international projects.
Prof. Šajgalík is a member of the European, American, and Japanese Ceramic Societies and currently serves as President of the Slovak Silicate Society. From 2015 to 2018 he was President of the European Ceramic Society.
In 2013, he received the Stuijts Award, the highest honor of the European Ceramic Society, and in 2017 the Bridge Building Award of the American Ceramic Society. He is a Fellow of both ceramic societies. At present, he serves as Treasurer of the European Ceramic Society. He is also an elected member of the World Academy of Ceramics and the European Academy of Sciences.
From 2015 until June 2025, Pavol Šajgalík was President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
