Statement of the Slovak Academy of Sciences on the WHO Global Pandemic Agreement

The Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) strongly objects to the disinformation circulating about the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Pandemic Agreement. The SAS considers it necessary to refute several inaccuracies and misleading claims that have emerged in connection with this agreement.

The Global Pandemic Agreement is the result of several years of intensive expert negotiations among WHO member states and is grounded in verified scientific knowledge and evidence. Its goal is to improve countries’ preparedness and response to future pandemics. The agreement focuses on strengthening international cooperation in public health and ensuring access to diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic measures for all.

A key component of the agreement is the promotion of rapid and transparent data sharing between scientific and medical institutions, as well as the involvement of researchers and healthcare professionals in international cooperation, research, and clinical trials. The agreement also seeks to ensure fair access to medicines, vaccines, and diagnostic tools in the event of future pandemics.

Contrary to the information circulated – even in public media – the Global Pandemic Agreement explicitly affirms the sovereignty of individual countries, respects human rights, and does not interfere with the national competencies of the Slovak Republic.

The Slovak Academy of Sciences emphasizes that ignoring well-established scientific facts and practices, dismissing logical reasoning, supporting baseless disinformation, and disrupting international scientific and professional cooperation will lead to risks for the health of the population in the Slovak Republic.
