The President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Prof. Pavol Šajgalík, received the Ambassador of the French Republic to Slovakia, H.E. Nicolas Suran, on Friday, February 14, 2025. The ambassador was accompanied by Economic Counsellor Philippe Bravard and Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs Olivier Favry.
During the meeting, the French side was interested in the current stage of implementation of the project Supercomputers Perun in Slovakia, which is set to be the basis for Slovakia’s digital transformation. The construction of the supercomputers is supported by investments from Slovakia's Recovery and Resilience Plan and the first one will be located on the premises of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Ing. Ivana Budinská, PhD, a member of the Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, provided details on the academy’s activities in this process so far.
Both parties highlighted the mutually beneficial cooperation in science and research, which culminated in the signing of a bilateral agreement between the Slovak Academy of Sciences and CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) last year. In the coming period, the cooperation between the two institutions will also focus on topics such as information technology and artificial intelligence."
