NEW PERSPECTIVES ON COOPERATION WITH BRAZIL
On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the SAS President, Professor Pavol Šajgalík, welcomed on the premises of the Academy H.E. Gabriel Boff Moreira, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission Daniel Costa Figueiredo, Councilor Ana Claudia de Faria Rodrigues and Correspondent for international cooperation Carli Fausti. The main topic of the meeting was the establishment of cooperation in science and research.
The SAS President informed the Brazilian ambassador about the Academy's structure, introduced the three scientific sections, and discussed the financing framework. Pavol Šajgalík recalled his visit to Brazil in 2018, especially to the University of Sao Paolo, which became the beginning of more extensive cooperation, especially in the field of physics and astronomy. The ongoing projects were suspended due to the COVID pandemic, but now there are favourable conditions for resuming this cooperation. The SAS President, Professor Pavol Šajgalík and the Brazilian ambassador, H.E. Gabriel Boffa Moreira agreed on this.
The ambassador of Brazil proposed to map specific scientific areas and topics in which the two countries could cooperate. Identified common themes could become the basis of future cooperation. Vice-President of the SAS for International Relations, Dr. Zuzana Panczová drew attention to the possibility of participating in joint research projects (JRP). In the next three years, the SAS will have the opportunity to draw additional funds for implementing project cooperation
