About article:
The study deals with comparative analysis of the karst relief of the plateau type in the Western Carpathians. Firstly, it identifies the common features of the geological building and tectonic development of geomorphic wholes of the Slovak Karst, the Slovenský raj (Mts.), Muráň plateau, and a part of the Hnilec Hills. Then it assesses the degree of its karstification relying on the thickness and the typological scale of the karst and fluviokarst relief forms. Finally, the study presents the development of opinion and suggests genesis of karstification process from the Upper Cretaceous as evidenced by the filling of the karst hollows, and also emphasizes the stage of karstification, which occurred after the neotectonic uplifting and dissection of the plateau into a system of karst plateaux.
