This work focuses on evaluating the potential for the preservation of the xerotherm vegetation communities in the National Natural Reserve area on Devínska Kobyla. It is important to understand the topoclimatic differences of thermal and hygric characteristics with regard to this relationship. In this work, we use me-thods of quantitative planar estimations of the topoclimatic characteristics, calculations of insolation dynamics from a digital terrain model (DTM). The final evaluation includes geomorphometric fields – elevation and the derived characteristics. A model that quantifies the potential for xerotherm vegetation preservation was created. The model is based on analysis of the relationship between various types of quantitatively defined geoecological subjects and dynamics of vegetation change which were derived from a chronological sequence of aerial photographs. This model can be considered a definitive product of the research ready to be employed in the management of this valuable site.
