About article:
Leaning on authentic literary testimonies, the author discusses the problem of the linguistic and cultural change in the former multinational Hungarian state in the early 19th century. The period of the Slovak national revival (approx. 1790-1848) thus appears in a new perspective, as the author suggests that this period be investigated within the context of and with respect to the classical Latin cultural tradition then being gradually pushed out of life and superseded by national languages.
