About article:
World literature remains resistant to feminist interventions, but recent feminist critique of world literature has emphasized how the discipline’ s ideology of universality discriminates against women writers. Yet this essay examines how Slovak feminists in the 1990s embraced the emancipatory potential of world literature to circumvent the nation’ s patriarchal literary tradition. Etela Farkašová’ s (1943) oeuvre – and her novel, Stalo sa (It happened, 2005), in particular – demonstrates the vision of an alternate compendium of women’ s writing.
