About article:
The article analyzes Slovak Holocaust memoirs written in languages other than Slovak as a case of world literature. A reading of these texts through theories of transculturalism, transnationalism, and cosmopolitanism shows them as located in a “transpace” where the local and the global, the national and the transnational, are inextricably intermeshed and engaged with each other, destabilizing also the dichotomy centre-periphery. It is argued that instead of narrowing down Holocaust literature to a high canon of a few selected works, which are then elevated to “world literature”, the Holocaust canon should be constantly expanded to include as many voices as possible and emphasize the enormity and complexity of this historical event.
