Sociálna stratifikácia obyvateľstva v regiónoch Slovenska

The paper is the first attempt to assess the development and the present situation (essential traits and nature) of the social structure and stratification in the Slovak geographical literature. The theory and methods involved in the study of social stratification and the development in Slovakia after 1989 are dealt with. Spatial aspects of the phenomenon were given the principal significance. Processing of the Microcensus data from 2003 led to the elaboration of profiles of regional societies in Slovakia and identification of their main characteristics. Based on the geographical analysis of the income distribution of households and construction of regional profiles we obtained an overview of social stratification at the level of the individual administrative regions of Slovakia.
