Abstract The paper will attempt to entertain the possibilities of understanding a picture as the interface of its author, era and the inner world of the perceiver, or, in other words, as the interface of the subjective and the objective, outer and the inner, the presented and the intended. It draws attention to understanding and the cognitive aspect of perception, as well as the role of emotions in perception.
