About article:
This study contains the analysis of circumstances of the creation of parting speech by Melchior Smrtník, the mayor of the independent royal and mining town Banská Bystrica which was written in time of leaving his function in the year 1707. The speech was made in the period of the Uprising of Francis II. Rákoczi’ s it happened shortly before the mayor’ s death on meeting of the Hungarian estates in Košice held in December 1707. The speech was dedicated to topical problems of Hungarian sociaty during the war time, it was read in the town council after the author’ s death because of – the mayor’ s personal merit in the town growth, his ideas and also because of the emotional context of the speech origin. The speech was registred in the administrative record. The supplement of the study contains Slovak edition of the parting speech of Melchior Smrtník from the year 1707. Its author is known in Slovak literature because of his parting speech during the time of mayor’ s leaving his funcion in the year 1707.
