The main characteristics of the contemporaneous research of landscape in the GDR are as follows; the research is based on the systemic approach, it goes out from the theory of geographical dimensions, using exact procedures and data from stationary observations, being an integral part of the scientific process of planned, rational and prognostically orientated utilization of physico-geographical environment. The notion of geosystem is being emphasized. Beside the traditional landscape analysis (knowledge of landscape structure, of processes and dynamics) the research is aimed at diagnoses and prognoses, too. The main problem circles are as follows: landscape structure and landscape spaces, processes, load and carrying capacity, structure of resources as well as potential problems concerned with them.
