About article:
Evaluation of the geographical position of the settlement belongs to the basic areas of research of urban geography. The importance of the analysis of a position of settlement is even greater in the period of radical political, social or economic changes taking course in a given country. The contribution presents basic characteristics of the geographical position of the Capital of the Slovak Republic – Bratislava. We stress the changes of the geographical position of the city that took place after 1989 and their relation to the developmental potential of Bratislava. On example of the suburb Petržalka, we point at the qualitative differences of the change of the city’s position on its individual parts and we also specify this relation.
