Africa has a great wealth of scarce natural resources as well as of human potential, on the other hand, it is the poorest continent. Even states with precious natural resources such as oil have failed to provide prosperity or a dignified life for most of their populations. The aim of this thesis is to examine various socio-economic aspects of the relationship between the existence of oil wealth and political developments and living standards in selected countries in post-independence sub-Saharan Africa. The particular region and topic will be selected in consultation with the supervisor.
