The thesis will be dealing with preparation and characterization of biodegradable polymeric systems based on thermoplastic starch (TPS). With respect to the TPS content, modified TPS will be added to the polymer matrix as a filler as well as it will be used as a continuous phase. The project is focused on various types of native starch modification such as esterification, grafting and plastification. Modified starch will be used for preparation of TPS by addition of various plasticizers (formamide, urea, polyols) and their combinations in order to optimize TPS composition and processing conditions for achieving required mechanical properties (higher strength, humidity resistance). Prepared materials will be investigated by determination of structural parameters and selected physical properties allowing understanding of relations between composition, structure and properties of multiphase materials.
