Cordialement,

Isabel Schäfer (Berlin2018@dfjw.org)

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On the occasion of the commemoration of the centenary of the End of World War I, the Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) organises with partners an international youth meeting in Berlin from 14 to 18 November 2018 under the title “Youth for Peace – 100 Years after World War I, 100 Ideas for Peace". The youth meeting will bring together 500 young people from Germany, France and other EU Member states, as well as from EU accession candidate countries and the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood countries.

The international youth meeting "Youth for Peace - 100 Years after World War I, 100 Ideas for Peace" stands under the patronage of the German Federal Foreign Office and the Mission du Centenaire de la Première Guerre mondiale (MdC). The event is realised by the Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) in close cooperation with the Institut français d’Allemagne / French Embassy in Berlin, the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. (VDK) and the Office National des Anciens Combattants et Victimes de Guerre (ONACVG) and further partners.

Following youth events at Hartmannswillerkopf in the French Vosges (2014) and in Verdun (2016), this big youth gathering in November 2018 in Berlin will offer the opportunity to discuss the First World War's lessons for peaceful coexistence no longer solely on a Franco-German level, but also on a European and international level. The high point and conclusion of the gathering will be an event on November 18 during which results from the workshops and concrete ideas for peace will be transmitted to political decision-makers and discussed with them.

The Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) gives a great attention to diversity as well as to intercultural dialogue and aims at a participation of a most diverse group of young people. The event is open to all young people interested in the topic. We are looking for 400 participants between 18 and 22 years old. The 100 pupils will be chosen apart by the Institut français d’Allemagne (IFA).

Applications can be sent from now on via the online form at: https://www.fgyo.org/youth-for-peace.html and will be accepted until June 17, 2018. Confirmation of participation will be sent by the end of July 2018. Further information about the event can be found at the website: https://www.fgyo.org/youth-for-peace.html that will be regularly updated in the upcoming weeks.

I would be very grateful if you could spread the information about the call for participants and the call for youth team leaders among your partner networks as well as to all young people who might be interested in the topic of Europe, the end of World War I and the future of peace. We are looking forward to your/their applications!

Thank you very much for your cooperation and support and please do not hesitate to contact me in case you need further information.

Best regards

Isabel Schäfer (Berlin2018@dfjw.org)
