Caves as valuable or rare natural sites present specific geoecological systems with several peculiar features of an underground environment. Mainly in karst areas cave geosystems have stronger connections with surface landscape systems. Many caves are influenced and disturbed by multiple negative anthropogenic impacts. The karst landscape is a very unstable natural system, its regeneration capacity is low and in some cases non-existent. Negative anthropogenic impact interrupts or changes the spatial structure, behaviour, seasonal etocycles or successional dynamics of cave geosystems. From the viewpoint of rational use and conservation of caves the paper deals with the vulnerability and ecostabilizing factors of cave geosystems in relation to the self-regulation processes and reversible changes of cave environment. The karst disturbance index is specified for measuring the degree of anthropogenic disturbance in caves.

Increasing regional disparities cause and multiply problems in many countries and regions in particular those boasting poor socio-economic parameters. The primary prerequisite for a solution to this problem namely balancing of regional disparities is their quantification using a methodological tool that makes it possible to obtain the necessary information and identify the rate of regional disparities. The group of methods presented here are the methodological base for quantification of regional disparities. The important results of this study include recognition of the existence of several exact sophisticated but also easily manageable methods and ways of measuring spatial disparities.

Tools for mobile spatial management ensure collection, visualization, spatial analysis and spatial decision-making for a wide range of users in the state administration and crisis management. Mobile spatial management is implemented by applications in mobile devices – with mobile map client and server applications using thin map clients supporting communication with mobile devices. At present, the development of mobile applications focuses on mobile communications with interactive mapping resources with the possibility of viewing and editing the geometry topics and geographical objects. The paper evaluates the selected instruments used – mobile mapping clients and their communication with the mapping resources which are distributed on the Internet in the form of map information services. The paper presents newly developed instruments: thin map client (TMK) tool for interactive mapping of waste according to the national waste object catalogue supporting a transactional web feature service; and hybrid mobile map client (HMK) for Android platform – tool for integration of web map and web feature services, and object query of them.

The paper deals with the determination of the ecological significance of the forest ecotone vegetation in the semi-natural landscape of the Starohorské Hills. For this purpose, the quantitative metrics of landscape structure in the investigated area is interpreted, with emphasis on the forest ecotone vegetation. The quantity (number, size, density, size variation) and spatial character (layout, orientation and shape) of the landscape patches is examined. The impact assessment on forest ecotone species diversity of vegetation was included in. We assign the first degree of ecological significance for the forest ecotones vegetation according to the ecological carrying capacity methodology by Hrnčiarová et al. (1997)..

The study is concerned with the morphology and dynamics of the channel-floodplain system of the Vydrica Brook (southern part of the Little Carpathians). Geomorphologic analysis focused on the interaction between the present climatic, slope and fluvial processes showed that the channel-floodplain system of the Vydrica Brook is in a state of dynamic balance. Erosion alternates with accumulation and the processes balance each other in the framework of an annual cycle. In times of maximum discharge, sand-stone bars emerge while the low discharge removes these bars. This dynamic balance is not disrupted by extreme atmospheric precipitation.
