Is Law an Autopoietic Social Subsystem? The concept of law as an autopoietic system is current in contemporary legal theory. It is based on a substantial change in defining law from traditional definitions of law as a normative system to law as a social subsystem. There are no grounds for this redefinition of law and it produces no added value. The theory of law as an autopoietic system is despite its manifest weakness an important inspiration for legal theory, particularly for the research of relations between law and its environment. One reason to reconsider this concept is the idea of circularity in legal systems. Sociológia 2011, Vol. 43 (No. 2: 111-132)

Antinomies of Social Memory. Theoretical thinking in the humanities and social sciences is formed by opinions often based on very different starting points. As a result, there are certain recurrent theoretical problems, which appear to us as antinomies, dilemmas and paradoxes. The study of social memory shows that even in these areas there are many conflicting opinions. This article outlines ten antinomies characterised by the following terms: individual memory and collective memory, spirit and matter, saving and deleting, irrevocable and revocable history, spontaneous and purposeful memory, myth and science, rationality and irrationality, liberating and traumatic memory, connecting and dividing memory, enlightenment and incorrigibility. A Meaning of Paid Work in the Course of Life of Young Women. Declining fertility, childlessness or postponement of maternity is among other things interpreted as a consequence of work vs. care conflict, i.e. a conflict between paid employment and pay free work in the household, including the care for children. Women anticipate the perils and uncertainty that the long absence on the labour market due to maternity leave can bring. Family social politics that should support combination of the two spheres, or allow men to participate more in child care are not yet enforced in the context of Czech Republic. In terms of sociological theory, there is an absence of consent regarding the fact, whether social policies may actually have a significant impact on reproduction of women and men. The article is based on qualitative research and deals with the given issue through perception of young Czech women who gave birth to their first child after reaching the age of thirty, or who still remain childless at this age. It does not primarily focus on how they reflect the harmonization of public and private sphere, but recognizes the value they attach to paid work during their life course and the connection to other events, especially when deciding about maternity. The analysis of interviews with these women unveiled, above all, the changing perception of work depending on age, age norms of maternity, (non)existence of a partner and maternity consideration. Conflict between paid work and maternity acquires various forms and the influence of inadequate support in the effort to combine the both spheres is noticeable only indirectly through the process of how women think about maternity as a transition that longitudinally and significantly affects other life spheres. Spatial Autocorrelation – Method for Defining and Classifying Regions in the Context of Socio-Economic Regionalization in the Slovak Republic. Polarization and differentiation of the society is the result of close links between social and economic dimension, which is reflected not only in economic but also in social differences between regions, along with a wide range of other different factors. The article presents the results of the analysis aimed to identify the problem-ridden and developed regions in the Slovak Republic at the municipal level based on the characteristics of the economically active population and unemployment rates in 2001. The main method applied for classifying regions was the spatial autocorrelation which plays an important role in spatial statistics and spatial econometrics. Identifying and implementing the right variables in space and time contributed to detection of micro-regional differentiation and its consequences within the structural constraints of the analyzed area.
