SCOPES OF JOURNAL
A scientific journal involves:
• providing a publication channel for new developments and achievements in structural engineering and building science,
• peer-reviewing of the manuscripts by two experts and publication,
• broad scope for wide participation and dissemination of new research results,
• wide distribution at affordable subscription rates.
The main topics of the Journal are items of mechanics, structural science, materials, buildingphysics and experimental research in civil enginering.

Focused are theoretical, numerical and experimental problems of structural mechanics, design of metal, concrete and wood structures, the effects of wind, earthquake and wave loadings on struc-tures, fluid- and soil-structure interactions, structural optimization, safety, reliability and control of structures, technology and physicochemical mechanics of new structural materials as well as the problems of daylighting, acoustics and thermal performance of structures.
Submissions of original papers from top scientists, researchers and practising engineers from all countries are particularly encouraged.

BRJ is indexed and abstracted in Emerald, Emerald Abstracts: ICEA – International Civil Engineering Abstracts (www.emeraldinsight.com).

Instructions to Authors
1. Submission of the paper
Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts in an electronic version as e-mail attached native.doc files of MS Word. The final (revised) paper should be sent in the electronic version including figures and tables. Manuscripts should be submitted to:

2. Preparation of the manuscript
General: The manuscripts should be in English and typed with single line spacing on a single side of a sheet. The first page of an article should contain (1) a short title (reflecting the content of the paper), (2) all the name(s) and address(es) of author(s), (3) the name and address of the author to whom correspondence and proofs should be sent, and (4) an abstract of 200 – 400 words. The paper should be concluded by proper conclusions reflecting the findings of the paper. A separate list of keywords should be provided at the end of the manuscript.
Tables and figures: Tables and figures should be consecutively numbered and headed with short titles. They should be referred to in the text as Figure 1, Table 2, etc. Originally drawn figures and glossy prints of photographs should be provided in a form suitable for photographic reproduction and reduction in the journal. A separate list of captions for illustrations should be provided at the end of the manuscript. Figures prepared electronically should be added – each figure in a separate file without caption.
Units and mathematical expressions: It is desirable that units of measurements and abbreviations should follow the Systeme Internationale (SI). The numbers identifying the displayed mathematical expression should be placed in parentheses and referred to in the text as Eq. (1), Eq. (2), etc.
References: References to the published literature should be given in the text by the last name of authors and the year of publication of the reference (e. g., Tesár and Držík, 1997) and listed in the alphabetical order of the last name of the first author in an appendix at the end of the paper. Journal titles should be abbreviated in the styles of the World list of Scientific Periodicals. References should be cited in the following style:
Journal: Tesár, A. and Držík, M. (1997), “Tuned Vibration Control of Overhead Line Conductors”, Building Research Journal 1, 37-47.
Book: Balas, J., Sládek, J. and Sládek, V. (1989), Stress Analysis by Boundary Element Methods, Elsevier, Amsterdam.
Proceedings: Janotka, I., Ray, A. and Samarin A. (2003), “Zeolite blended cements for better sulphate resistance”, Proceedings Concrete in the 3rd Millennium, Brisbane, 132-138.
3. Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author in the electronic version to correct any typesetting errors. Alterations to the original manuscript are not accepted. Proofs should be returned as soon as possible.
4. Copyright
Submission of an article to “Building Research Journal” implies that it presents the original and unpublished work, which is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. On acceptance of a manuscript submitted, the copyright will be transferred to the publisher by the Transfer of Copyright Agreement.
5. Reprints
A total of 5 reprints of each paper will be supplied free of charge to the corresponding author.
