Curriculum vitae

Ing. Maroš Bella, PhD.

Maroš Bella studied at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava receiving his MSc (Ing.) in chemistry in 2006. He subsequently completed his PhD studies in organic chemistry under the supervision of prof. Viktor Milata at the same institution in 2011. During his PhD studies (June 2008-May 2009), he spent a year at Syngenta Crop Protection Münchwilen AG, Stein, Switzerland, where he worked on the development of synthetic routes to novel compounds with nematicidal activity under the supervision of Dr. Olivier Loiseleur.
He then moved to the Institute of Chemistry, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Miroslav Koóš. In 2014, he was awarded Štefan Schwarz fund supporting postdoctoral fellows at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Maroš began his independent research career in 2018 as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Chemistry. His research focuses on the design and synthesis of selective Golgi mannosidase II inhibitors based on carbohydrate mimics such as swainsonine and mannostatin A. He also targets oligosaccharide synthesis and total synthesis of natural products and their analogues.
