The Science Fair returns for another year

SAS Vice-Chairman for Science, Research and Innovation prof. RNDr. Peter Samuely DrSc. opened the second Scientific Fair on September 14th. The event aimed at the popularisation of science among children and young people is organized by the Veda Civic Association (občianske združenie Veda) in cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science of Comenius University. Among the exhibitors were university faculties, SAS institutes, secondary vocational schools, as well as scientific groups and technology companies.
The patron of the activity is SAV chairman prof. Mgr. Pavol Šajgalík, DrSc. together with the former Slovak Minister for Education, Science and Sport Juraj Draxler, who initiated the event.
"I think the event can be described as a huge success," says Juraj Draxler, who is now an SAS employee. "Hundreds of children and young people have attended and spent a very active afternoon full of scientific demonstrations and lectures."
The event was preceded by a public discussion on the state of Slovak higher education on the eve of the Fair. Also partaking in the discussion was the dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies of the Slovak Technical University Ing. Mária Bieliková, PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science of Charles University prof. RNDr. Jozef Masarik, DrSc., Radomír Masaryk, PhD. from the Faculty of Economics and social science UK, Charles University, Martin Luterán, PhD. from the Collegium of Antoine Neuwirth and former Education Minister Juraj Draxler. The discussion was held at the Binarium start-up centre in Bratislava.
