The Slovak Academy of Sciences was honoured with a working visit on Thursday, September 7, by the Ambassador of Greece to Slovakia, Maria Louisa Marinakis. Vice-Chairman of SAS RNDr. Pavol Siman, PhD. presented not only the structure, status and areas of international cooperation of SAS, but in particular the SAV WATERS initiative, which has a clear declarative capacity to contribute to tackling issues related to water efficiency, water education, promotion and security in the EU context.
Both sides agreed on the benefits of expanding cooperation in a strategically important area because water has become not only a strategic, global phenomenon with a large local or regional impact but is also the subject of a scientific solution for a sustainable world.

According to the European Environmental Agency (2012), water pollution and over-use of water are constantly damaging the ecosystems that are essential to Europe's food, energy and water supply. In order to preserve aquatic ecosystems, agrarian, planning, energy and transport sectors must actively engage in economic governance so that water management is within sustainable limits.
Following the meeting on Thursday, the Chairman of SAS scientific section 1 will also present the Waters initiative project in the coming weeks in Greece.
