The Institute of Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology is proud to host Assoc. Prof. Yoel Rodriguez from Hostos Community College of The City University of New York. Yoel Rodriguez is an associate professor of physical sciences and his lectures are popular within Hostos students. His research is focused on computational biophysics and its applications in medicinal chemistry. Yoel Rodriguez together with Magdalena Majekova and a team from the Department of Biochemical Pharmacology explores the structure and function of SERCA1 - calcium ATP-ase from sarco/endoplasmic reticulum. The activity of SERCA1 protein affects calcium signaling and its malfunction can be associated with many pathological processes. Elucidation of SERCA1 properties would help to discover novel compounds for the treatment of chronic diseases by means of its modulation.

The results of his recent research will be the focus of his next presentation, which will be held at the Institute of Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology on November 28, 2016, at 1:00 pm.

The visit of Assoc. Prof. Yoel Rodriguez and his work with the team of Dr. Magdalena Majekova have been also mentioned in actual issue of Salute to Scholars, edited and printed by the City University of New York.
