About article:
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the performance of a number of extrapolation models commonly used in regional population projections. Various models are calibrated and used to project the 1994 population for each of the 63 urban regions in Slovakia. These projections are then compared with actual counts for target year in order to evaluate the model performance. The results indicate that the best forecasts are provided by either the autoregressive models or ratio models with lagged variables. Some of the elementary growth models and simple ratio models also perform well.
