Theatre as a communication of the crisis of values
Divadlo ako komunikácia krízy hodnôt
Program: VEGA
Project leader: PhDr. Knopová Elena PhD.
Annotation:In theatre theory and creation, we are confronted with thematisation of a crisis of values as a result of dynamic and dramatic transformations in the society understood in a traditional way. The turn of the 20th and 21st century brings significant shifts in the value interpretations compared to the previous stage. It reveals the need for synchronic and diachronic perspective on the relationship between the world as an articulated structure of human values and theatre performance as an artistic representation of value, negation or critique of order of the world. The project aims, in a coordinated manner, and through case studies, to characterize the above-mentioned trend in Slovak theatremaking and drama production, and incorporate it into a wider European context. In the proposed research, we will analyze the relationship between theatrical production and individual and social situation, and examine whether contemporary Slovak and European theatre mediates critical reflection, metaphor or model of the world.

Program: VEGA
Project leader: Mgr. Palúch Martin PhD.
Annotation:Research project is concerned at critical author´s documentary filmworks, which are the important part of the history of Slovak cinema from the begining till nowadays. Criticaly concerned docu-cinema will show us the main topics and issues, which were crucial for the authors of the docu-cinema, inspite of meantime ideology and political establishment. There is a question, when the criticaly concerned docu-cinema begun in Slovakiaas a genre and independent author´s critical voice as well, because the main aim of these filmworks is to criticize the conditions and relations in society or to describe disfunction of the system, of its institutions and policy, to show the ideological represions against citizens. Increasing of criticaly concerned docu-cinema is obviosly connected with political changes in Slovakia after the Velvet revolution in 1989 when the represions against authors for their independent opinnion has finished. Since that the reneissance of this docu-film genre is observed in last 20yers.

Slovak theatre and contemporary European theatre culture - continuity and discontinuity
Slovenské divadlo a súčasná európska divadelná kultúra - kontinuita a diskontinuita
Program: SRDA
Project leader: prof. PhDr. Mistrík Miloš DrSc.
Annotation:Slovak theatre research will focus on theatre tradition in comparision with the European influence that was present since the years of professionalization (1920), which also affects the current status of the early 21st century. The project aims to examine the Slovak theatre and context of intercultural situations, from several angles - in a dramatic, directing, music, acting and scenographic part. The Slovak theatre, drama and opera, where the project is mainly engaged, were essentially interfering with the Czech, German and Russian inspiration, which were previously the most significant, but increasingly also other: mainly English, French and Polish. This project creates a collective platform to address issues being raised and the systematic analysis of what most contributed and contributes to transcend cultural boundaries and pushes us to the international level (within the theatre compagnies, productions and theatre personalities). Project does not circumvent the tradition of Slovak theater, but explores its position in the European context. The research team can not aspire to an overall and final picture, but it can give a significant impetus for attention to this subject, to expand optics and through intercultural dialogue to establish closer cooperation with foreign theatre research.
