LITERARY TERMINOLOGY OF BOHUSLAV TABLIC I. DIFFERENTIATION OF THE CONCEPT OF THE “ART OF LITERATURE” Lenka Riskova 1)
“THE ART OF LITERATURE “, EDUCATION, BOOK CULTURE, LITERATURE, AESTHETIC FUNCTION, “WELL-DESERVED MEN IN THE AREA LITERATURE“, LITERARY ARTIST The art of literature – both in the written and in oral form is a basic mean for transmitting of information. In the both meanings, referring to either to books or the book culture and also in the abstract meaning referring to education and knowledge, it should primarily mobilize effort to improve life condition of people and to be involved in the process, contributing to stabilization of ethical and religious norms in the social consciousness. Its meaning was increased in relation of the mean for stimulation of language and cultural consciousness of the ethnic and national groups. Research of the Tablic´s understanding of the art of literature in its complexity includes searching the material and his statements in the both poetic texts and fictions or in the commentaries that were and additional supplements of his editions or translations. He seems to make clear differentiation of particular types of literary expression. He differentiated informative texts from the texts with aesthetic function. Slovenska literatura. THE INTERPRETATION OF THE “PICTURES OF LATE TIME“ (JAN KALINCIAK: RESTAVRACIA /RESTORATION/) Rene Bilik 1)
ROMANTICISM, REALISM, PICTURE AS A GENRE, RATIONAL SCEPSIS, ROMANTIC IRONY The study is an interpretation of one of the most known texts of the Slovak Romantic literature, the fiction of Jan Kalinciak Restavracia (Restoration). The main problem initiating the interpretation is an opinion, quite fixed by the history of literature and also known in the school praxis, that the mentioned fiction has a realistic character. Contrary to it, the author of the study, however, pointed out mainly features connected with the Romanticism. He shows constitutive role of the rational scepsis in the text. He defines it as basic semantic gesture of Jan Kalinciak not only for this fiction but also for his historical fictions. Those are helpful as a “paradigm” of methods and conventions for reading the Restavracia (Restoration). The study discloses foundational features of “picture” in the structure of Kalinciak´s fiction and it shows connections with early Romanticism in the concept of Romantic irony. Slovenska literatura. “Z TEPLEHO HNIEZDA” (FROM THE NESTLIKE HOME.) TO THE REASONS OF KUKUCIN´S MELANCHOLY Ivana Taranenkova 1)
MARTIN KUKUCIN, SLOVAK LITERARY REALISM, MELANCHOLY The study is an analysis of three Martin Kukucin´s fictions, in which he repetitively deals with an autobiographic element – the same epic situation of child’s departure from home, “the nestlike place“. They are short stories Z tepleho hniezda (From the Nestlike Home, 1885), Velkou lyzicou (With a Big Ladle; 1886) a Do skoly (To School; 1893). In the cultural consciousness they are known rather as works of the literature for children. But the mentioned motif belongs to the constant motifs in the M. Kukucin´s works. It is connected with melancholy. Melancholy can be a consequence of the modern situation – an unanchored individuum is without stabile support, the world of traditional archaic values is destructed, the new modern period and its situations invaded lives. Kukucin repetitively comes back to what is traditional, archaic and constant. He painfully perceives fatal changes and the flux of time. His come back to the epic situation of child’s departure from home, or to a motif of pushing him out of “the nestlike place“, which is typical for his autobiographic fictions, cannot be interpreted as dealing with his personal traumatic experience. It cannot be interpreted as the consequence of unhappy family decisions, because it concerns archetypal situation, “throwing or dismissing from home to the cold world” from the family nest, intimate family shelter, which in Kukucin´s fictions is depicted through pictures of a family house, or metaphorically through the pictures of “the nestlike place“. This literary feature is described also in the work The Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard. Melancholy presented in the analyzed Martin Kukucin´s fictions is connected with the consciousness of fatality which comes from the time flux. It is connected with loss of childhood representing the only period of human’s life, which is not complicated and all the things of life are defined with clear connection. Slovenska literatura. JAN SMREK: THE POET AND THE WOMAN Michal Habaj 1)
SECULAR SPIRITUALITY – ETHOS – TROUBADOURS´ POETRY The aim of the study is to point out the ethical, moral foundation of Smrek´s artistic philosophy, his concept of love and erotic in the context with his poetic composition Basnik a zena (The Poet and the Woman). The poetic composition Basnik a zena (The Poet and the Woman) was published in 1934. It was ten years later than the first four chapters of it were published in the magazine. That is why we characterize his publication as a newly reworked edition. In the centre of Smrek´s composition there is a relationship between the poet and the woman. From another angle this relationship can represent the poetry and the love. Both of the topics belong to the key themes, the core for Smrek´s philosophical concept as the whole. Smrek´s concept of love as humanizing power refers directly to troubadours’ poetry and develops some noetic and aesthetic toposes of medieval courtesy. In the mentioned context we can understand Smrek´s ambivalence between sensuality and courtesy, between physical desire and spiritual astonishing, between eros a ethos. This love paradox in both the troubadours´ and Smrek´s poetry has its function and form of secular spirituality. Smrek´s concept of love is inseparably connected with moral regulations; the character of Smrek´s erotic is in fact ethical. Smrek in the poetic composition Basnik a zena (The Poet and the Woman) formulates ideological foundations for his poetry and his artistic and poetic philosophy. The contribution of the study becomes evident also due to the fact, that the composition Basnik a zena (The Poet and the Woman) has not be analysed in details in the literary research, yet. For the following research it is crucial to consider what we depicted in the study - mainly the Smrek´s concept of love and its affinities in the medieval troubadours´ poetry and the humanistic meaning of it.
