SAS Offers for Commercial Sphere
Coating of tows of continuous carbon fibres by copper or nickel.
Code: IMC-P-00-0023-UMMS
Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics
Description:
Technology of carbon fibre tows coating in continuous operating mode consists of several steps: pretreatment, reduction and galvanic coatings and final surface treatment of carbon fibres. Semiproduction facility which was patented by our Institute started to work in 1990. Because of copper coating of carbon fibres is a demanding process, copper coated carbon fibres are not commercially produced yet.
Inovation:
Further development is directed to the new types of coatings, combined coatings and to the possibilities of coating of electrical nonconductive fibres (glass, alumina).
Application:
Main use of copper or nickel coated carbon fibres is for production of composite material with controlled thermal expansion and good thermal or electrical conductivity. Another use is in epoxy laminates to shield electromagnetic waves or to scatter static electrical charge as well as to produce heating plastic panels (surface of airplane wheels, reservoir of fuel and so on).
State:
Technology of copper and nickel coating of carbon fibres in continuous operating mode is ready to be introduced into practice.
Cooperation:
Enlargement of carbon fibre coating capacity.
