Technology for determination of dosing schedules for substances with narrow therapeutic windows and/or very expensive drugs.
Code: IMC-T-00-00001-UEFa
Institute of Experimental Pharmacology & Toxicology
Description:
The technology is based on a mathematical model of dynamic system describing the fate (absorption, distribution, and elimination) of a drug in a patient identified after administration of a test dose of this drug to the patient. The model identified in this way is patient- specific. It exclusively is dependent on the inherent characteristics of the patient dominant for the drug fate in her/his body, and is independant on the route of the drug administration. Mathematical properties of the model allow exactly to determine various dosing schedules of the drug individualized for the patient (e.g. a multiple dosing of the drug over several hours, a short- and/or long-term infusion, etc.). Moreover, the properties of the model allow to determine the drug doses necessary to be administered at the particular time intervals, to reach and maintain drug levels according to treatment requirements in the patient.
Advantage:
In comparison to methods currently used in the clinical practice, this technology of drug dosing is particularly suitable for the exact dosing of risky substances, as are e.g. chemotherapeutics and immunosuppresive substances at the high risk of side and adverse effects or very expensive drugs. In general, the technology can be used with advantage for drug dosing to patients in very severe pathological states or patients in marginal age groups.
