Department of Social and Biological Communication was established in 1990 as a centre of basic research into complex relations between the biological, social and cultural aspects of human existence. Its focus is on the communication which is both the subject of research and its methodological framework.
Particular research topics centre on two thematic streams:
- the issues of health and healthy life style (psychology of sexual health; specific aspects of education in relation to differences in cognitive development; environment and human behaviour; risk behaviour; life style), and
- the issues of human mental, individual, social, and cultural identity.
From the perspective of methodology emphasis is laid - on three principles:
- transdisciplinarity
- cross-cultural comparative frame
- qualitative methodology in combination with other approaches
